Collection Instructions
Specimen Collection:
Fluid: Aspirate contents into sterile container.
Wounds, lesions, or abscesses: Decontaminate the skin by removing superficial flora before collecting the specimen from advancing margin or base

Rejection Criteria
- Common specimen rejected situations include: incorrect specimen type, insufficient volume, incorrect collection container, missing or incomplete specimen identifiers, incorrect specimen transport, or specimens outside stability limits.
- Specimens in lithium heparin tubes will be rejected.
