Rejection Criteria

  • Common specimen rejected situations include: incorrect specimen type, insufficient volume, incorrect collection container, missing or incomplete specimen identifiers, incorrect specimen transport, or specimens outside stability limits. 
  • Specimens in preservatives or additives will be rejected.
  • Rectal swab samples will be rejected.

Clinical Indications

  • Aid in the detection of both Clostridium difficile toxin A and toxin B in stool samples and serves as a diagnostic aid for identifying C. difficile–associated disease.
  • Meconium may interfere with the C. difficile Toxin A & B assay - do not test specimens from infants less than two years of age.
