Important Note

Specimen Types NOT ACCEPTED:

  • Catheter tips
  • Hardware
  • Oral wounds or tissue
  • Respiratory, including BAL, ET aspirate, NP swab, oral or throat swabs
  • Saliva
  • Stool (feces)
  • Swabs not in anaerobic transport media
  • Swabs received in oxidized (blue) anaerobe transport medium
  • Vaginal
  • Urine

Specimen and Container/Tube

Tissue, fluid or aspirate

Use of swabs is strongly discouraged.

Anaerobic transport tubes available from Microbiology lab if in-house (call 773-702-6133) or order through Oracle #131524. A red vacutainer tube can be used for larger volumes.

Whole blood/unspun samples greater than 6 hours will be rejected.
