Additional Information
- One 2.7 mL plastic 3.2% sodium citrate blue top and one EDTA Lavender top vacutainer tubes per patient. A technologist from the Coagulation Laboratory must be present when the blood is drawn to ensure sample integrity.
- Specimens should be drawn with a minimum of trauma or stasis at the venipuncture site and anticoagulated in the ratio of 1 part anticoagulant to 9 parts blood.
- Once each blue top tube is completely filled, gently invert the sample tube at least five times to ensure complete mixing of the contents.
- After being drawn , plastic or non-contact surfaced (siliconized) material should be used throughout in order to minimize activation of the platelets during sample preparation.
- Subjects for platelet function by ATP release should avoid taking any prescription or over the counter medications known to affect platelet function for ten days prior to the test.
- Test not avaliable for add-ons.
