UCMC Onsite Instructions: Collect specimen per standard collection procedure and send to laboratory immediately.
UCMC Offsite and UC MedLab Outreach Instructions: Collect specimen per standard collection procedure and send to laboratory immediately. Specimens must be received within 8 hours. If transport is delayed, refrigerate specimens prior to transport.
Rejection Criteria
- Common specimen rejected situations include: incorrect specimen type, insufficient volume, missing or incomplete specimen identifiers, incorrect specimen transport, or specimens outside stability limits.
- Frozen or heated specimens will be rejected
- Quantity not sufficient specimens are not suitable for testing and will be rejected
- Specimens collected with preservative will be rejected
- Grossly bloody or turbid specimens may not be suitable for testing

Clinical Indications
- Detect the presence of eosinophils in urine
- May be important in renal allograft recipients when acute rejection is suspected, in patients with allergic nephritis, or patients with other diseases, probably most importantly being drug-induced acute interstitial nephritis.
- Other diseases which have been found to be associated with eosinophiluria include rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis, acute prostatitis, postinfectious glomerulonephritis, acute cystitis and schistosomiasis.
