Collection Instructions

Collect specimen per standard laboratory collection procedures.

NOTE: Once each blue top tube is completely filled, gently invert the sample tube at least five times to ensure complete mixing of the contents.

Test Components

Decreasing doses of Ristocen tested for platelet aggregation with pathology review

Clinical Indications

Functional platelet aggregation study used to investigate for certain subtypes of von Willebrand disease or platelet function disorder.

Methodology

Platelet aggregation

Additional Information

  • Ten 2.7 mL plastic 3.2% sodium citrate blue top vacutainer tubes per patient. A technologist from the Coagulation Laboratory must be present when the blood is drawn to ensure sample integrity.
  • Specimens should be drawn with a minimum of trauma or stasis at the venipuncture site and anticoagulated in the ratio of 1 part anticoagulant to 9 parts blood.
  • Once each blue top tube is completely filled, gently invert the sample tube at least five times to ensure complete mixing of the contents.
  • After being drawn , plastic or non-contact surfaced (siliconized) material should be used throughout in order to minimize activation of the platelets during sample preparation.
