Collection Instructions

A. Finger stick
1. Identify desired puncture site and cleanse with alcohol.
2. Position lancet firmly against puncture site. Puncture site should be the side of the third or 4th finger, if possible. Do not lance the middle of the finger.
3. To activate the lancet, press the lancet firmly against the puncture site. Do not remove the device from the site until an audible click is heard. Dispose of lancet into sharps container after use.
4. Wipe the first drop of blood away.
5. Apply a well-formed drop to the ACCU-CHEK Inform II test strip.

B. Heel stick

Follow standard heel stick procedure

  • Neonatal venous whole blood
  • Cord blood samples
  • Whole blood collected into devices containing fluoride, EDTA, sodium, or ammonium
  • Serum or plasma
  • Samples other than whole blood (e.g., body fluid, dialysis fluid, etc.)
