NOTE: All blood bank samples must have HAND WRITTEN collection information on the label to be accepted (date MM/DD/YY or MM/DD/YYYY, time, and initials).

6 mL in each of the three tubes listed above in Container section.

Minimum Volume

Samples that are less than the three tube types specified above, and less than full in each tube (6 mL), may result in testing delays, or result in some tests not being completed.

Sample Collection Instructions

  • Perform up to 10 complete inversions (turn upside down and back again for each inversion) of all three tubes immediately after collection.
  • Additionally, it is important to allow the red top serum tube to "clot" in a vertical position by using a rack or similar sample holding container, instead of setting the tube on a flat surface
  • Clots formed from laying on a flat surface may cause delay of results or a result of not tested. 

Offsite Collection Instructions

Deliver sample set to Blood Bank, CCD-2730 or tube station 400, Send out processing Monday – Friday by 5 pm,

Samples will be sent out to the American Red Cross National Testing Lab in St. Louis, MO (ARC), ARC will return results via secure blood bank email address.

Transport Instructions
