Collection Instructions

Collect specimen per standard laboratory collection procedures. Clean void and clean catch specimen required. Early morning specimen is best.

Yellow and grey top tubes must be received by the laboratory.

Test Components

Color, clarity, specific gravity, pH, leukocyte esterase, nitrites, protein, blood, glucose, ketones, bilirubin, urobilinogen, WBC, RBC, squamous epithelial cells, bacteria, additional urine microscopic findings such as cast and crystals reported when present

Clinical Indications

  • Assess the chemical constituents in the urine and the relationship to various diseases
  • Detect presence of microscopic elements in urine

Methodology

Beckman Coulter iRICELL, reagent strip chemistry, flow cell microscopic pattern recognition, light microscopy

For urine culture information refer to test URC

Synonyms/Search Keywords

UA, Urine macroscopic and microscopic, Urine with reflex to culture.

Additional Information

Please note residual urine samples run on the Beckman Coulter Iricell cannot be used for other add-on testing.

Urine culture reflex is based on findings from urinalysis. Positive leukocyte esterase or presence of >5 WBC will reflex urine culture.
