Test Components
Alpha-1-Antitrypsin
Clinical Indications
Alpha-1-Antitrypsin (A1AT) is an important, positive acute phase reactant found in elevated concentrations in inflammatory processes (e.g.infectious and rheumatoid diseases), tissue necrosis, malignancy and traumas.Useful in diagnosis of alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency. May be useful in the work-up of individuals with suspected disorders such as familial chronic obstructive lung disease.
Methodology
Immunoturbidimetric Assay (Roche Diagnostics)
Additional Information
- Results should always be assessed in conjunction with patient's medical history, clinical examination and other findings.
- Elevated estrogen levels (oral contraceptives; third trimester of pregnancy) give rise to increased values. CRP and haptoglobin should therefore also be determined.
Turnaround Time
Turnaround times are relative to the time the specimen is received in the test laboratory.
STAT Turnaround Time: 1 hour
Routine Turnaround Time: 4 hours
Testing Schedule: 24/7
