Collection Instructions
Specimen Collection:
- Insert swab into vagina about 5 cm (2 inches) inside the opening of the vagina and gently rotate for 10 to 30 seconds.
- Place swab into collection tube and then break the swab shaft off at the scoreline against the side of the tube. Discard top portion of swab shaft.
- Re-cap the collection tube and tighten securely. Invert 3-4 times to elute material from the swab.
Specimen Transport: Immediately at 2 - 28°C

UCMC Onsite Instructions: Collect specimen per standard collection procedure and send to laboratory immediately.
UCMC Offsite and UC MedLab Outreach Instructions: Collect specimen per standard collection procedure and send to laboratory immediately. If transport is delayed, refrigerate specimens prior to transport.

Clinical Indications
- Aid in the diagnosis of vaginal infections in women with a clinical presentation consistent with bacterial vaginosis, vulvovaginal candidiasis, or trichomoniasis.
- The BV organism targets of the Xpert Xpress MVP test can be commensal in women; Xpert Xpress MVP positive results for bacterial vaginosis should be considered in conjunction with other clinical and patient information to determine the disease status.
