UCMC Onsite Instructions: Collect specimen per standard collection procedure and send to laboratory immediately.
UCMC Offsite and UC MedLab Outreach Instructions: Collect specimen per standard collection procedure and send to laboratory immediately. Specimens must be received within 24 hours. If transport is delayed, store the sample in a refrigerator.
Rejection Criteria
- Common specimen rejected situations include: incorrect specimen type, insufficient volume, missing or incomplete specimen identifiers, incorrect specimen transport, or specimens outside stability limits.
- Frozen or heated specimens will be rejected
- Clotted or quantity not sufficient specimens are not suitable for testing and will be rejected

Testing Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm and Saturday 8:00 am - 3:00 pm, if later specimens are expected the laboratory must be notified

Methodology
Flow cytometry or Kleihauer-Betke acid slide elution method.
Kleihauer Betke Method will be performed outside of flow cytometry hours for STAT orders. Routine orders are held for flow cytometry method performed Monday through Saturday 8:00am - 4:30pm.
