Rejection Criteria

  • Common specimen rejected situations include: incorrect specimen type, insufficient volume, incorrect collection container, missing or incomplete specimen identifiers, incorrect specimen transport, or specimens outside stability limits. 
  • Only 1 sample per day will be accepted.

Clinical Indications

  • Aid in the detection of the capsular polysaccharide antigens of Cryptococcus species complex (Cryptococcus neoformans and Cryptococcus gattii)
  • Weakly encapsulated Cryptococcus strains can lead to false negative results.
  • False positives can be caused by infections with Trichosporon and Rhodotorula sp.
