Test Components
Aldolase
Clinical Indications
Assisting in the detection of muscle disease.
Methodology
Enzymatic Spectrophotometric (Roche Diagnostics)
Additional Information
- Results should always be assessed in conjunction with patient's medical history, clinical examination and other findings.
- Aldolase values for inactive persons and patients at bed rest are only 50-70% of the values for active individuals. The level at birth is twice as high as in adults; values double in childhood and then slowly fall to the adult range by 18 to 20 years of age.
- Phenothiazine with high initial values will decrease aldolase value. Other drugs that may increase aldolase level due to muscle damage at the site of injection are corticotropin, quinidine, tetracosactrin, and thiabendazole.
Add on requests:
Refrigerated specimens not removed from the clot for 24 hours result in the aldolase activity being 12% to 46% greater than properly treated specimen.
Turnaround Time
Turnaround times are relative to the time the specimen is received in the test laboratory.
STAT Turnaround Time: Not available as STAT test
Routine Turnaround Time: Up to 7 days
Testing Schedule: Once per week on Thursday before 12 pm.
