Lactate levels in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) are increased in bacterial meningitis. Increased
CSF levels also occur in hypocapnia,
hydrocephalus, brain abscesses, cerebral ischemia and any clinical
condition associated with reduced oxygenation of the brain and/or
increased intracranial pressure.
