Specimens must be transferred to APTIMA urine specimen collection kit prior to transport to laboratory. Specimen in collection kit can be stored at 2-30°C for up to 30 days before testing.
UCMC Collection Instructions
Specimen Collection: Patient should not have urinated for at least one hour prior to collection. Collect the first 20-30 mL of voided urine (the first part of the stream — NOT midstream) in a sterile specimen collection cup (available from General Stores). Female patients should NOT cleanse the labial area prior to specimen collection. Transfer the specimen to the Aptima urine specimen collection kit if 14 years of age or older.
Testing cannot be performed on patients less than 14 years old.
