UCMC Collection Instructions

Specimen Collection: Collect in clean, wide-mouth container. Use spoon in lid of EcoFix container to transfer specimen into EcoFix preservative. Fill to red line and mix.

The following substances may interfere with detection or identification of parasites: barium, mineral oil, bismuth, metronidazole, tetracyclines, antimalarial agents, and nonabsorbable antidiarrheal preparations. Specimen collection should be delayed for up to 2 weeks after discontinuation. Must not be contaminated with water or urine.
 

Specimen Volume and Container: Entire specimen if possible in clean, sealable container or EcoFix vial. 1 specimen per day for 3 days.
 

Specimen Transport: Clean container, < 2 hr; EcoFix vial, up to 21 days, no refrigeration
