STAT Turnaround Time: 2 business days
Routine Turnaround Time: 10 business days
If test results are needed same-day, please contact the laboratory at 2-0700, and page #8722.
Testing Schedule: M-F 7:00am-7:00pm
Clinical Indications
In the pre-transplant setting, testing is performed for the detection and characterization of HLA-specific antibodies that could cause potential complications at the time of transplant.
In the post-transplant setting, testing is performed for the routine monitoring of patients for early signs of rejection, which assist with the course of treatment.
Platelet transfusion support: Patients with low platelet counts are at risk for serious bleeding complications and are often transfused with platelets from healthy donors. However, patients can sometimes produce antibodies to the HLA molecules expressed on platelets, which reduce the effectiveness of platelet transfusion. HLA typing, in addition to antibody detection, help physicians choose a platelet donor that will result in increased platelet counts for patients in need.
Test Components
HLA antibody screening: Flow-cytometry using phenoype beads
HLA antibody screening/identification: Solid-phase using phenotype beads
HLA antibody specificity: Solid-phase using single antigen beads
