Specimen Source: Body Fluid other than blood, urine, or CSF. Sterile site fluids such as amniotic, ascitic, bile, dialysis, joint, peritoneal, pericardial, and pleural.
Specimen Collection: Decontamination of overlying skin and aspiration of fluid.
Specimen Volume: 1 mL for joint and pericardial fluid. 10 mL for others.
Specimen Transport: < 2 hr, no refrigeration
