Specimen Handling and Transport Instructions

• Collect 10mL of blood in Red Top tube.Transport blood specimen on warm pack to processing area of lab.
• Allow blood to clot at 37°C, typically 15-30 minutes. Use a 37°C water bath or 37°C incubator if available, or keep the blood on warm packs if that is the only option.Promptly centrifuge the blood after clotted at room temperature for 5 minutes at 5,500 rcf (Calculate rpm depending on centrifuge rotor size). (Do NOT centrifuge at 4°C)
• Remove all serum into a clean aliquot tube.Transfer serum at room temperature to UCMC Clinical Immunology Laboratory.It would be helpful to notify the Clinical Immunology Lab that a sample is being sent to ensure it is placed at 37°C upon arrival.
