Specimen Source: Corneal scraping
Specimen Container: Glass slides obtained from the Microbiology
lab. Please call the lab at 773-702-6133.
Specimen Collection: Specimen collected by ophthalmologist using a
sterile spatula to scrape ulcers and/or lesions. Scrapings are
directly inoculated onto glass media (between the frosted ring).
Please label the frosted part of the slide with patient
information.
Specimen Transport: 24 hr, no refrigeration

Specimen Source: Contact lenses, solution, and
case

Specimen Collection: Send contact lenses, contact cases, and/or
contact solution to Microbiology lab.
Specimen Transport:  24 hr, no refrigeration
