Useful in the differential diagnosis for the diseases

Test Limitations
After acute pancreatitis, the lipase activity increases
within
4–8 hours, reaches a peak after 24 hours and decreases
after
8 to 14 days. Certain drugs such as cholinergics and opiates
may
elevate serum lipase. Calcium dobesilate causes artificially
low
lipase results.
